Complete set of (114) hand-painted, illustrated plates of period costume designs throughout history, accompanied by a descriptive handbook recounting the historical context of the costumes. Stiff color illus. wraps, black cloth binding, typescript copy. 114 one-page descriptions (printed on rectos only), 2 pp. bibliography at rear. Accompanied by 114 loose hand-colored 8.5x11" plates (also issued as larger posters intended for classroom/museum display), collated and complete. Compiled as a WPA project in the late 1930s, issued ca. 1940. Description book shows modest wear with rubbed edges, contents a bit toned along edges. Plates show minor handling wear but are nicely intact, housed in an Eastern Arts Philadelphia 1940 Convention Folder (original to issue?). Rarely offered complete.
