Original dull pink cloth, lacking spine panel. Cloth spotted and faded, mostly tanned (especially toward edges), rounded/exposed corners. Foxed throughout, ranging light to moderate. Unrestored copy, front board detached, rear board loose and binding weak but holding. viii,127,[1],[ii],56,[errata] pp., engraving of fox on 2nd p. [51]. First edition, first issue, with no added text on p. viii, but this copy lacking lithographic views and portraits. Signatures of former owner John Clemens, Haddonfield, NJ in fore-edge margins of pp. 31 and 113; front pastedown shows private library book plate of Pennsylvania historian Thomas Lynch Montgomery, 1929. First title takes up the history of the oldest sporting club in the world; second title is the first American imprint about fox hunting. Howes M 636. Very scarce.
