Original black cloth, elaborately decorated with floral/vine pattern in blind, spine panel with gilt title cartouche. Considerable wear, but intact in all essentials. Cloth shows mild dampstaining along spine panel and joints. Rubbing at corners has led to exposure and some layering, rubbing with mild loss at spine extremities, modest binding lean but firm. Dampstaining extends through most of text block along binding margins and in some cases extending into top or bottom margins, generally light, a cosmetic distraction, also light scattered foxing. x,248 pp., frontis. engraving, lacking map. Howes N-148, second entry. This second edition contains eight additional letters not included in the 1835 first edition. Nicklin also wrote a considerably more common perambulation through "the prettiest parts" of Pennsylvania. Scarce.
