Brown cloth, lettered in gold foil. Covers show light spotting, with slight bump to heel of spine. Text block bound in upside-down but otherwise intact. Separation of paper along front hinge at staples, otherwise intact, binding unaffected. Imprint partially inked out (original to issue), publisher retained. 300 pp., reproducing in facsimile examples of 52 different colonial American newspapers, each preceded by a two-page introduction providing title, date, printer, history, and summary of contents. All are gathered from the New England and Mid-Atlantic states, some named simply for the state or commonwealth in which they were published (such as the Massachusetts Gazette or Pennsylvania Chronicle), others for particular cities, including Boston, New York, Providence, New London, Newport, and Essex. Entries span 1715-1780, and each represented issue is reproduced in full (2 or 4 pages), not simply front pages. Exceptional.
