Light brown cloth, decorated in blind, lettered in gilt on spine panel. Rubbed with exposure at corners and spine extremities, somewhat tanned along edges and spine panel. Text block edges rather dulled by age, interior otherwise essentially intact, excepting light scattered foxing. At rear, the subscribers' list (3 pp.) has been pasted over with period reviews of this publication from various newspaper and journals, with another leaf of reviews tipped in. Signature of former owner Emma Biddle on front flyleaf, small book plate mounted on front pastedown. 429 pp., illus. w/ color 7-panel reproduction of the 1682 wampum belt, showing partial tearing along several fold lines and detachment along one fold line, but complete and repairable (we have left "as is"). Articles on the Society of the Cincinnati, the 1794 Insurrection (Whisky Rebellion) in western Pennsylvania, the presentation to the HSP of the belt of wampum delivered by the Lenapes to William Penn at the Great Treaty under the Elm Tree in 1682, the Acadian Exiles (French neutrals) in Pennsylvania (Azilum), and Major Andre.
