Brown cloth, elaborately lettered and decorated in black and gilt. Second printing of original edition, copyrighted 1875, printed 1876 (lower title page date). Modest shelf wear, overall very nicely preserved, strong VG tending toward Near Fine. Chipped with mild loss at head of spine (approx. 1/4" x 1" band of cloth), very slight cloth loss at heel of spine; all four corners intact, hinges intact. Text block edges somewhat dulled/darkened by age, interior clean, binding firm, no loose or detached leaves, pages crisp and unfoxed. Slight off-seting/foxing apparent at frontis. only, tissue guard fully intact. 605 pp., illus. Exceptional.
