Original edition, rebound in dark blue buckram, blindstamped along front joint as from Mercantile Library [Philadelphia] (where it is likely to have resided from the institution's inception), lettered in gilt on spine panel. Mercantile Library stamps on title page and pp. 3 and 39 as well, with institutional book plate mounted on front pastedown, otherwise unmarked. Lacks front flyleaf, rear flyleaf detached but present. Main title (Select Pieces) shows printed date (in Roman numerals) of 1783; second title (A Few Experiences) shows handwritten date of 1780. Approx. 25% loss to one leaf (pp. 3-4), with loss to text (mainly a salutation at the head of p. 3, affecting about the first 10 lines of text on p. 4), otherwise complete and intact. A few period notations internally. Moderate foxing to main title, otherwise clean, with text block edges a bit dulled by age. Very scarce, evaluated as Good only due to one incomplete leaf, though otherwise solid VG or better, with note to recased status.
