The Pennsylvania Second State Tax of 1779 . . . How It was Shared by the Property Owners of Bucks County (Part I): A Contemporary Manuscript Record of Bucks County's Revolutionary War Era [#111/200]

Price: $45.00

Quantity: 1 available

Book Condition: Very Good

Wraps, perfect-bound. 1st edition: Dec. 1978. All published (though labeled as Part I). Moisture contact has resulted in slight waviness to text block along bottom edge, with modest dampstaining evident at bottom binding corner, along rear joint, and along top edge of about the final dozen leaves, all purely cosmetic, not affecting legibility of contents in any way. 141 pp. Facsimile reproduction of the 1779 tax book (in long-hand, occasionally a bit difficult to decipher), arranged by township: Warminster, Warrington, New Britain, Hilltown, Warwick, Plumstead, Haycock, Rockhill, Richland, Nockamixon, Tinicum, Bedminster, Bristol. During production, several pages were inadvertently transposed; several errata slips have been mounted internally (original to issue). No. 111 of an edition limited to 200 copies "privately printed for controlled distribution by the current custodian of the original manuscript," thus quite scarce. Valuable genealogical resource pre-dating the first Federal Census for Bucks County by 11 years.
