Olive green cloth variant (also issued in orange and brown), lettered/decorated in black and gilt, light blue endpapers. xvi,315 pp., illus. Front cover shows illustration of Fogg standing at end of pier (retained from the first American edition, by Osgood, 1873), in black (as are title cartouches and decoration), illustration of Chinese man carrying open umbrella in gilt on spine panel (gilt title and author cartouches, gilt publisher lettering, black decorative accents). Nicely preserved copy showing only light rubbing along edges and at corners, very slight shelf wear, text block edges a bit toned by age. Firm binding, clean interior, intact hinges. Handsome calligraphic gift inscription on front blank after flyleaf, dated 1886, otherwise unmarked. Circa 1876, apparently 2nd American edition, 1st thus (Porter & Coates, Philadelphia, erroneously recorded as London in some sources), preceding the same publisher's Alta Edition. Exceptional.
