First Edition
Hardcover 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Very Good. Book
Brown 1/4 cloth, marbled paper covered boards. Respectably preserved copy showing rubbed edges with some exposure/rounding at corners, mild surface rubbing to covers, 1/4" closed tear to outer cloth at head of spine. Text block edges somewhat toned by age, with one signature projecting very slightly along fore-edge, all signatures intact, binding firm. Moderately soiled endpapers, blue watercolor/dye doodle on lower front pastedown, otherwise unmarked. Magnus published in (4) parts, each separately paginated and separately indexed, the first three parts titled identically, the fourth provided its own title ("Das Buch der Geheimnisse") but identified explicitly as "Vierter Theil" (4th part), thus 66,80,67,71 pp. Interior generally clean, with scattered foxing, mostly light, a few leaves typically age-toned. Recorded in Shoemaker's bibliography of Lehigh County imprints in German, the only powwowing/Braucherei imprint published in Lehigh County in the 18th or 19th century, and one of the scarcest, seldom found in any condition. Better than average, exceptionally scarce. 029966
