Yellow cloth, bordered and with front panel cartouche in black, lettered and decorated in black on spine panel, rear panel decorated and bordered in blind. Cloth is moderately soiled and spotted, with toned spine and slight indentation midway down front cover. Lacks front flyleaf, with 2-page publisher's advert. tipped in at same, preceding half-title. Former owner signature in pencil on half-title. Firm binding, generally clean interior excepting light and quite scattered foxing, text block edges a bit dulled. xiv,112,xiv,96 pp. Bentley 239a variant? Note pagination; not 166 pp. as typically found. First part contains Preface (dated 1866), Songs of Innocence, Songs of Experience, and Miscellaneous Poems; second part (separately paginated) contains Poetical Sketches, introduced (after second preface) by an apparent facsimile title page of the original (1783) edition "By W. B." Lower spine and title page both show imprint of only "Pickering," not (later) Pickering & Chatto. Appears to be both a textual and binding variant to most copies typically encountered in on-line listings and auction records. Assuredly most scarce. 015609
