Green cloth, lettered in gilt. Slight lean, lightly rubbed corners and spine extremities, lightly soiled bottom text block edge. 287 pp. Dust jacket design by William Fairchild. Dust jacket chipped with loss at head of spine, affecting "Betrayal" in spine title, slightly chipped at heel of spine, some edge rubbing evident; jacket appears to have been printed for a slightly thicker book, prior to the change-over to wartime paper, and is labeled on front flap as a Fourth Printing, but the book is a stated First Edition, so either the jacket is not original to this copy, or subsequent printings of the book were not noted as such on the copyright page. pp. 108-109 browned where a vintage associated news clipping from the New York Sunday Mirror has been laid in, else clean interior. Very scarce signed copy, personally inscribed by author to Hortense Joy Gold, occupying most of front flyleaf, with her color book plate mounted on front pastedown.

Dark red cloth, bordered in blind, lettered in gilt on spine. Traces of rubbing at corners, virtually as issued. Book plate of former owner Hortense J. Gold on front pastedown, to whom the author has written a four-line inscription on adjacent front flyleaf: "For Hortense Joy Gold - / Who is as charming / as her cookies are delicious. / With every good wish / from / Alan Hynd." 317 pp. Dust jacket chipped with loss at head of spine, showing rubbed edges with a few short closed tears, approx. 2" Y-shaped tear with minor loss along bottom rear joint and lower spine panel, approx. 2" closed tear along lower rear flap fold, now in mylar and still presenting very well. Profile of intelligence operations within the U.S. Treasury Dept. Scarce signed copy.
